The small, mean end of the Muff family. One knob, no gain control, and a grind that behaves more like a torn-up overdrive than a wall of fuzz - it stays out of the way of your playing instead of swallowing it.

What it does
The Muff Fuzz is the odd one in the Electro-Harmonix line: not the big sustaining Big Muff sound but a tight, gritty, low-gain crunch, closer to an overdrive that has been pushed past politeness. It cleans up when you roll your guitar's volume back and gets hairy when you dig in, so a lot of the control lives in your hands rather than on the box.
Because there is no gain knob, there is nothing to get wrong. One knob sets how loud it leaves, and the character stays put. That makes it a good always-on dirt pedal, and a good thing to put in front of an already-driven amp when you want more teeth without more volume.
The name is the only fancy thing about it.
