Globot
A distortion with a resonant filter bolted to its tone control, out of a rare and not particularly loved Ibanez from the 1990s. The Tone knob does not roll off the top so much as move a peak around, which is why it sounds like nothing else in the drawer.

What it does
The Ibanez Soundtank series is mostly remembered for the cheap plastic boxes it came in, and the CD5 Cyberdrive is the one worth digging out of them. Instead of the usual treble-cut tone stack it runs the distorted signal through a filter with a movable resonant peak, so the Tone knob sweeps a vowel across the sound the way a wah does when you stop moving it.
The upshot is a distortion that can be nasal and hollow at one setting and thick and round two hours later on the clock, without ever sounding like a Tube Screamer at any point in between. Push Distortion and it goes past overdrive into something more synthetic and compressed.
Good for leads that need to sit in their own frequency slot, and good for anything where you want dirt with a shape to it.
